St. James Garden

Location / Boston, Massachusetts
Client / Liberty Mutual Group

The St. James Avenue garden, replacing an old executive parking lot, now provides valuable green space in a dense commercial district. The focal point for the space is a dramatic vertical water wall masking a garage entrance. The design for the water wall features six separate vertical panels – line chiseled in Italy and staggered in plan and height to create visual interest. The water volume and direction, paired with LED lights, allows for a multitude of staging possibilities and presentation.

Copley Wolff’s design also includes living green walls that provide a buffer between the office tower and the park. The living green walls are designed with vertical elements to tie in with the paving patterns in the park and the vertical columns of the building, create human scale for the space and are oriented to allow for views from the offices above.
