Ryan Playground

Location / Dorchester, Massachusetts
Client / Boston Parks and Recreation Department

Copley Wolff led the redesign of Ryan Playground in Dorchester. Through online community meetings and surveys, the community provided direction on the renovation: a beloved mural was preserved, and art tiles designed by neighborhood children were integrated into the entry gateway. Additional features included a new splash pad, play structures for different age groups, swings, and a basketball half-court.

The original Ryan Playground held a dense existing tree canopy. Working with a certified arborist, Copley Wolff analysed the existing tree network and designed the park around the preservation of priority trees to provide shade over play spaces and picnic tables.
