Located in northwestern Massachusettsę pastoral Berkshire Mountains, Greylock Center is a proposed mixed-use development project sited on an 800-acre state reservation. Comprised of hospitality, recreational, educational, residential and open space components. This four-season destination resort is considered a catalyst for the economic recovery of this rural area, and a model for sustainable public/private development.

The centerpiece of Greylock Center is an 18-hole golf course and a 40-kilometer trail system. The golf course follows the most recent design guidelines established by the National Audubon Society for the creation of environmentally sensitive golf courses. Putting greens and turf areas are limited in size, and wildflowers, grasses, and native vegetation are used as natural buffers; hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing trails are all built from natural materials; and elevated boardwalks protect the siteęs numerous wetlands, while allowing visitors to directly experience the native flora and wildlife.

In addition to the golf course and trail system, a clubhouse, nature education center, regional conference center, residential villages, rustic cabins, and camping areas will be developed. These facilities are densely clustered to minimize environmental impact. Their connecting roads use recycled and natural surface materials, and buildings are oriented to take advantage of solar energy. Electric and water-saving appliances are also incorporated where possible. Gray water is treated and reused, and a composting center processes organic waste.

Educational signage and recycling programs will educate residents and visitors on environmental issues. A farm, orchard and greenhouse will house demonstrations on sustainable practices.

The project is currently on hold, awaiting state funding.
