Working with the project architect, Tsoi/Kobus & Associates, Inc., Copley Wolff Design Group has prepared site planning for the new development at the Massachusetts Institute of Technologyês 28 Osborn Street property. This renovation and expansion of an existing brick industrial building will provide an additional 190,000 square feet of research and development space, adjacent to the MIT campus, that will be geared to Cambridgeês ever-growing hi-technology community.
The site design for the project accommodates 260 parking spaces as well as the ancillary needs of visitor arrival, loading, and servicing for the building. A finely detailed pedestrian plaza, featuring facilities for outdoor dining as well as a sculptural fountain element, fronts the entrance of the building. The 28 Osborn Street plaza connects to a pedestrian allee edged by mature street trees that derives from a masterplan intending to connect this site with other adjacent sites in mid-town Cambridge. The approximate site cost of the project is $2 million dollars.
