At Copley Wolff Design Group, we strongly believe that landscape architects can play a vital role in the conception of sustainable and energy efficient projects.

CWDG is committed to the "Green Building" movement led by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System®.

USGBC-LEED

USGBC’s LEED–New Construction and Major Renovation (LEED-NC) Version 2.1 Rating System® is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.

In the Sustainable Sites component of the LEED-NC Version 2.1 Rating System®, we can guide a project not only in fulfilling the requirements of the Erosion and Sedimentation Control Prerequisite but also in attaining 10 (ten) of the 14 (fourteen) possible credit points. The relevant credits include:

  • Site Selection (1 point)
  • Urban Redevelopment (1 point)
  • Brownfield Redevelopment (1 point)
  • Alternative Transportation(1 point)
  • Reduced Site Disturbance (2 points)
  • Stormwater Management (2 points)
  • Heat Island Effect (2 points)

In the Water Efficiency component, we can guide a project in attaining 3 (Three) of the 5 (Five) possible credit points. The relevant credits include:

  • Water Efficient Landscaping (2 points)
  • Innovative Wastewater Technologies (1 point)

Another relevant CWDG characteristic is our intrinsic ability to collaborate with Architects and Engineers. More than half of our design staff has experience working "in" architecture or civil engineering firms. As a result, we are especially sensitive to the nature of the collaborative efforts needed for successfully conceiving LEED Certified projects.

LEED-ND

USGBC has announced plans for a LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) rating system. LEED-ND is guided by the Smart Growth Network’s ten principles of smart growth and is being conceived as a set of guidelines for decision-making with respect to site selection, design, and construction of neighborhoods.

neighborhood development

Copley Wolff Design Group’s expertise in the design and master planning of mass transit oriented, mixed use, bicycle and pedestrian friendly neighborhoods will bring us to the forefront of LEED-ND based developmental initiatives.
